On 8-9 January 2010, the Royal Thai Embassy participated in the 5th Northeast Business Summit in Kolkata on 8-9 January 2010. H.E. Mr.Krit Kraichitti, Ambassador of Thailand led a Thai delegation consisting of Thai businessmen as well as representatives from public sector to participate in the said event. The purpose of the presence of Thai delegation is to promote economic relations between Thailand and Northeast Region of India, in trade, investment, tourism as well as development.
The Ambassador delivered his remarks at a seminar, emphasizing the importance of “Look East” policy conducted by the Indian Government and “Look West” policy conducted by the Thai side, which significantly complement each other. The Northeast region of India is regarded as a gateway to Southeast Asia as well as to Thailand which have been culturally linked centuries ago. There is therefore a huge opportunity for the two sides to expand their cooperation both in bilateral and regional level, namely ASEAN-India and BIMSTEC. Thailand attaches importance to the connectivity; air, land, sea link, between Northeast region of India and Southeast Asia as it will lead to other sectors of cooperation.

Minister of Development of Northeast Region of India, Chief Minister of Assam, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Minister of Tourism of Manipur as well as Foreign Minister of Myanmar, Minister of Finance of Bhutan, Minister of Trade and Industry of Laos as well as ASEAN Ambassadors to India, also participated in this event.
