Team Thailand in Chennai organized two events to showcase the best of the country to Chennai’s public and its high society; Thailand Sourcing and Business Matching in Chennai 2013 and Thai Night. Thai Ambassador to India was invited to attend both events between 13-14 July 2013.
Thailand Sourcing and Business Matching in Chennai 2013 is an annual event organized by the Thai Trade Center in Chennai in collaboration with the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce, the Department of Agricultural Extension of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives,
the Royal Thai Consulate in Chennai and Team Thailand in Southern India.
The fair was held between 11-14 July 2013 at Chennai Trade Centre in central Chennai. Thousands of visitors attended the fair in which 35 Thai businesses participated. Products showcased in the fair ranged from gems and jewelry, clothes, gifts, home decors, toys, to household and kitchen utensils.
The Department of Agricultural Extension brought some Thai exotic fruits for visitors to taste such as mangosteen, rambutan, sweet tamarind, dragon fruit, longan, rose apple and guava. Thai traditional performance by Pibulsonggram Rajabhat University was also shown daily in the fair.
On the night of 14 July 2013, Mr. Chanchai Charunvatnakij, Thai Consul-General to Chennai hosted ‘Thai Night’,
an exclusive Thai dinner with traditional shows, at Sheraton Park Hotel & Towers. Ambassador to India was invited to attend the dinner along with approximately 120 guests of city’s high society and foreign Consuls-General. High Highness Nawab Mohammad Abdul Ali Azimjah, Prince of Arcot, was the chief guest of the memorable night.
The night started with traditional shows from Pibulsonggram Rajabhat University followed by authentic Thai dinner prepared by a Thai chef of the Sheraton Park Hotel. Two return tickets between Chennai-Bangkok were announced on lucky draw and guests were given ‘Secrets of Thai Cooking’, an exclusive Thai cookbook, before they left the night with the impression of genuine Thainess.
